Gel X and Gel X Extensions: What Makes Them Different
Gel X nails use a soft gel tip bonded directly to your natural nail with no filing required underneath. That makes Gel X extensions one of the gentler options for people with thin or damaged nails. The full Gel X full set goes on quickly and the result is a clean, uniform look right out of the gate.
GelX is a trademarked system, but at MT Nail Studio we work with multiple soft gel products that follow the same principle. If you've heard of Gel X nails and wondered whether they'd work for your nail shape, book a consultation and we'll show you what to expect.
Hard Gel vs Poly Gel: Picking the Right Build
Hard gel is carved and shaped after curing, which gives your technician more control over the final structure. It's a good pick for longer lengths or for anyone who needs serious durability. Poly gel falls in the middle, it's thicker than liquid gel but easier to sculpt than traditional hard gel, and it cures only when you're ready.
Gel builder products in general are strong enough for everyday use, but the right choice comes down to your nail bed shape and how long you want to go. Our team walks every new client through the options so you're not guessing at the chair.
Gel Fill and Gel Overlay Maintenance
A gel fill addresses the growth gap at the base of your nail after two to three weeks. It's faster than a full set gel appointment and keeps the existing structure intact. We recommend coming in before the gap gets too wide so the repair stays clean.
A gel overlay is different. It covers your natural nail without adding length, giving you a strengthened surface that holds polish longer. If you're trying to grow out your natural nails, a gel overlay keeps them from breaking while they get there.
